Prism is an online not-for-profit magazine that provides in-depth coverage and analysis of security related issues that are often not in the mandate of the mainstream press. Accountability, transparency and good governance are also part of Prism’s mandate as these subjects are very much intertwined with security practices. In short, Prism brings our readers news and views that matter.
Prism was founded by Maher Arar in January 2010. It has since been staffed by a dedicated team of volunteers. This includes:
- Maher Arar, Publisher
- Richard Swain, Managing Editor
- Kristen Soo, Social Media Community Manager
- Sarah Boyd, Legal Correspondent
- Yahya Abdul Rahman, Arts and Literature Correspondent
Prism’s contributors include prominent human rights activists, veteran journalists, and practicing professionals such as lawyers and academics. To find out who writes for Prism you can visit the
Contributors web page.
Prism is currently being funded exclusivity by its founder Maher Arar.

Prism doesn't offer paid positions at this point in time. This may change in the near future. We expect that we will hire a half-time freelance video journalist during the first half of 2012. You can monitor the
careers page for current and future openings.
We are always on the lookout for good volunteer writers, bloggers, producers, graphic designers, video/lighting experts, Internet marketing and social media experts. We also offer non-paid internship positions during the summer. Depending on the candidate Prism may offer a part-time job to the right student during the subsequent school year.
