Justice for Omar Khadr!

. Published on August 1, 2010

August 10, 2010 may mark the beginning of the end for Omar Khadr. An internationally condemned military commission process will commence and Omar Khadr will be tried for multiple terrorist-related charges. These charges have been brought forward despite the facts that:

- he was a child at the time of the alleged offences
- some of the the prosecution’s evidence that will be used was derived from torture
- vast amounts of evidence for the Omar’s defense is being disallowed.

Regardless of the outcome of Omar’s trial, one finding is certain – a finding of failure of the Governments of Canada and the USA to uphold justice and the rule of law.

What can be done at such a late date? Join the voices from around the world that are, in these last days leading up to the military commission trial, raising awareness and expressing global disapproval.

Join concerned people from all around the world as they support Omar Khadr. Sign the “We Are Omar Khadr” declaration.

Also, show your support for Omar Khadr and join the Facebook group “We Are Omar Khadr” .

And change your Facebook profile to show Omar Khadr’s face with your own personal message to all of your Facebook friends.

Working together, we must try to support Omar and stop this hideous military commission.

If the US convicts this man, it will be the end of sanity. (not to mention justice)

The Canadian government needs to act like it. It needs to protect Canadians abroad, its history of which has been something out of another kind of government. In this case, it needs to protect a Canadian from a government that tortures, captures children and could execute, all in direct contravention of international laws that we have endorsed. The Harper government has behaved abominably in this case and needs to correct this with some Canadian values, none of which it has used in the past.

It's really time for the average Canadian to wake up and come to a full understanding of what our current "government" represents; simply put, a proxy for the U.S. government and corporate interests. Canadians are not permitted to hear speakers of the truth like George Galloway, who was barred from visiting this country. We have signed on to be part of a murdeous invasionary force in Afghanistan, thus changing our nation's status from that of peace keeper to military aggressor. Our government has a very poor track record as it pertains to protecting the interests of Canadians who are travelling outside of Canada…especially if their skin is dark or they happen to have Muslim names.

At home, although statistics have been demonstrating for years that the rate of crime has been declining, the government wants to move toward harmonizing our justice system with that of the U.S…..the U.S. having the highest rate of incarceration per capita in the world. Yes, there's no shortage of money to build prisons and provide hyper-inflated security budgets for the G20 side show, but, there's no money to fund programs to reduce child poverty or assist women's organizations.

The case of Omar Khadr demonstrates conclusively the immoral depths to which this government will decsend in order to appease and impress their masters in Washington and elsewhere. They are a disgusting embarrassment and they have tarnished Canada's good reputation around the world. I have no solution, except for each person to stay alert to the lies and propaganda that our "government" represents and to continue to fight for justice and truth, including this sad case of the injustice that has been perpetrated against Omar Khadr.

    Hi All,

I am conducting a big campaign on this issue, I'm writing to a number of people. I really do believe that if the world stays silent there will be no justice. We must make this a BIG issue, every little bit of campaigning helps.
